Comparedto biggest cities of the world, such as New York, London or Moscow, my nativetown is rather small. It is difficult to find it on the map, but it has a greatmeaning for me because it is the place where I was born, where I’ve got myfirst impressions of life, its beauties and sorrows.
I was born in Sergiyev Posad, a town with population of 110,000 in theNorth-East of the Moscow region, in the very heart of the Russian Federation.It takes about an hour to get from my town to Moscow by bus or by train.
Sergiyev Posad has a long history. It grew in the 15th century around one ofthe greatest of Russian monasteries, the Trinity Lavra which was established bySaint Sergius of Radonezh in 1337. The Lavra is undoubtedly the major localsight. 
Town status was granted to Sergiyev Posad in 1742. Its name, alluding to St.Sergius, has strong religious connotations. That’s why the Communistauthorities changed it first to just Sergiyev in 1919, and then to Zagorsk in1930, in memory of the revolutionary Vladimir Zagorsky. The original name wasrestored in 1991.
In spite of all the misfortunes, most old houses in its centre, including theLavra and some other Christian Orthodox temples, have been preserved. 
International and domestic tourism, associated with the Golden Ring, plays akey role in the local economy. There are also an important factory and a museumof toys in Sergiyev Posad.
The Lavra is the site of the Moscow Theological Academy, which includes theMoscow Theological Seminary, the Regency School, and the School of Iconography.Yet Sergiyev Posad has no university.
It was hardly possible to find high-quality private tutors in the town orsomewhere nearby, so I had to work hard at my English and prepare to exams allon my own. I still hope Ill successfully pass them all. 
Wherever I study, live and work, I will always remember my home Sergiyev Posadand come to see my family as often as possible.
