Russian families are large and friendly. The meaning of the family inRussia is not limited to the husband, wife and children. It stretches toinclude grandparents, aunts and uncles, brothers, sisters, nephews andnieces. The members of the Russian family closely communicate with eachother and frequently get together, especially on such family occasionsas birthdays and anniversaries.
But.....A group of people who have thesame name  and sit together in front of TV set is not yet a family. Here aresome family statistics in Russia. About 40% of couples live together beforegetting married. Now people marry later, usually by the age of 25. Since the law made it easierto get divorce, the number of divorces has increased. At present, more than 40 out of every 100marriages end in divorce. Every year about one million families break up. Thismeans, that there are a lot of one-parent families.
