The hundred years war was a series of military conflicts between Britain and its allies, on the one hand, and France and its allies, on the other, which lasted roughly from 1337 to 1453. The reason for these conflicts were the claim to the French throne of the English Royal House Plantagenet, seeking to return the territory on the continent, formerly owned by English Kings. The plantagenets were also affiliated with the French Capetian dynasty. France, in turn, has sought to oust the British from Gieni, that was established by the Treaty of Paris of 1259. Despite initial progress England have not achieved their objective in the war, and war on the continent she left the port of Calais, which it held until 1558.
