Штаты Колорадо и Калифорния, Аризона и Монтана, Нью-Мексико и Невада, Айдахо и Юта могут показать туристам до двух десятков таких мест. Их жутковатый вид привлекает мистиков и кинематографистов, а также группы туристов. Знаменитый фильм "Silent Hill" создавался по образам заброшенных городов Америки. Город, в котором есть церковь и школа, вокзал и телеграф, магазины и дома, но нет жителей… У каждого из городов-призраков есть своя трагическая история. "Oh My God!" — восклицают туристы во время экскурсий по пустынным улицам. когда-то, жизнь в этих городах била ключом, а теперь лишь пустота и тишина. Чаще всего, города-призраки США располагаются в ее центральной части, вдалеке от крупных трасс, заправок. Иногда, причинами является истощение природных ресурсов или какие-то природные катаклизмы, а чаще они исчезают по обыкновенной глупости самих людей. Так, например, городок Кордс в Аризоне был основан в 1883. Через 12 лет там жило более 400 человек, а в 1926 году это уже был настоящий центр, с пивными барами, церквями и магазинами.
